Unfortunately, the data we have access to isn’t specific enough to tell us whether individual casinos’ slots were loose or tight. Rather, the reporting will focus on certain groups of casinos depending on their locations (ie The Strip, Downtown, Boulder, etc). We’ll make a point of pointing out which casinos are located in zones with looser slots.
The “win percentage” of a casino slot machine is the percentage of the total amount wagered by the player that the casino keeps as profit. A 10 percent casino win percentage, for example, means that the casino kept 10 cents of every dollar wagered on slot machines on average.

For example, a player entered $20 into a slot machine and made it last for a while by spinning for a total of $200 before losing everything. The player wagered a total of $200, and the casino won, or held, $20, resulting in a 10% casino win percentage.
Now that we’ve cleared everything up, let’s look at where you might locate slots in Las Vegas that are more likely to pay off.
It matters where you play. The graph below shows the percentages of casino slot wins by area, which includes all slot denominations. It’s easy to deduce that casinos in tourist areas earn from a higher percentage of slot play.
As shown above, the Boulder Area (6.10 percent casino win percentage) and North Las Vegas are the finest spots to play slots in the Las Vegas area (7.24 percent win percentage).

In another unusual twist, slot machines on the Las Vegas Strip loosened slightly in 2020 compared to 2019 (8.16 percent in 2019 vs. 7.95 percent in 2020), while slots downtown tightened slightly (7.78 percent in 2019 vs. 8.24 percent in 2020).
It’s worth noting that video poker is included in these slot statistics. Lower casino win percentages outside of the Strip are partly, but not entirely, owing to better video poker pay tables available at locations outside of tourist areas.
Where in Vegas Can You Find the Most Loose Penny Slots?
We also broke down where the loosest penny slots in Vegas can be located by location, because penny slots are the most popular denomination with gamblers. Because the data below only consider penny slots, it is unaffected by video poker and so provides a more accurate picture of where looser slots may be found in Las Vegas.
Clearly, there is a link between being “touristy” and having greater slot hold rates. With casino win rates of 11.26 percent and 11.45 percent, respectively, the downtown and Strip penny slots were the closest.
Penny slots are more likely to pay out in the Boulder (9.61 percent win rate) and North Las Vegas (9.71 percent win rate) locations, similar to our prior data set that looked at all denominations.
So, where can you find looser slots in Las Vegas?
Despite the fact that most players can’t identify the difference between a “tight” and a “loose” slot, the statistics suggest that staying away from the Strip and Fremont Street will give you a better chance of winning.
The casinos in the more liberal Boulder and North Las Vegas reporting zones are listed below. Although they aren’t the most picturesque neighborhoods, if winning is more important to you than dazzling lights, fountains, and star chef restaurants, take an Uber and go.
Sam’s Town, Eastside Cannery, Arizona Charlie’s, Boulder Station, Sunset Station, M Resort, Fiesta Henderson, and Green Valley Ranch are among the casinos in the Boulder area.
Jerry’s Nugget, Silver Nugget, The Cannery, Fiesta Hotel and Casino, Texas Station, Cannery, and Aliante are among the casinos in the North Las Vegas area.
The Denomination You Play Matters
The Slot Denomination You Play Has an Impact The statewide data below shows that slot denominations have an impact in finding loss machines. With a 9.74 percent win percentage in 2020, penny slots were by far the tightest type of slot in Nevada, with quarters coming in second with a 7.31 percent win percentage.
Despite the fact that the following data is partly “polluted” by video poker at the quarter denomination and higher, the view is still useful in demonstrating how bad penny slots are in comparison. It’s also worth noting the link between denominations and the looseness or tightness of machines. In general, the looser the slot, the greater the denomination.
